Royal Mail announces the new postage tariff which took effect on 4th April 2011. A first class stamp rises from 41p last year to 46p, and a second class stamp jumps from 32p to 36p.

Franking machines are also affected but, as before, the increase is not as large as stamps. A first class frank (previously 36p) will now be 39p and second class franking goes from 25p to 28p.

This is great news for companies already franking, who can save 7p over stamping a first class letter, and 8p on a second class letter.
